New techniques in quantitative imaging are needed to accelerate understanding of brain development and function in children. In this study we evaluate the reliability and validity of an automated parcellation method for the measurement of large and small brain regions in normal and developmentally disabled children. We utilized an adaptation of the(More)
We report an analysis of the nuclear dependence of the yield of Drell-Yan dimuons from the 800 GeV/c proton bombardment of 2H, C, Ca, Fe, and W targets. Employing a new formulation of the Drell-Yan process in the rest frame of the nucleus, this analysis examines the effect of initial-state energy loss and shadowing on the nuclear-dependence ratios versus(More)
A program is underway to develop liquid-hydrogen energy absorbers for ionization cooling of muon-beam transverse emittance. Minimization of multiple-scattering-induced beam heating requires thin windows. The first window prototype has been destructively tested, validating the finite-element-analysis model and the design approach.
The goals of this survey of families with a leukemic child were (1) to develop simple, objective methods of describing the overwhelming impact of this serious illness on families, and (2) to test the value of family coping responses that manifested themselves immediately after the diagnosis in predicting stress outcome as measured a few months after the(More)
This document summarizes the work of the Accelerator Working Group (AWG) of the International Scoping Study (ISS) of a Future Neutrino Factory and Superbeam Facility. The main goal of the activity was to reach consensus on a baseline design for a Neutrino Factory complex, including proton driver parameters, choice of target, front-end design, acceleration(More)
The Double Chooz experiment presents an indication of reactor electron antineutrino disappearance consistent with neutrino oscillations. An observed-to-predicted ratio of events of 0.944±0.016(stat)±0.040(syst) was obtained in 101 days of running at the Chooz nuclear power plant in France, with two 4.25 GW(th) reactors. The results were obtained from a(More)
