Few studies have been done on the ecology of Bromelia pinguin (Bromeliaceae), a bromeliad with unique characteristics found throughout Central America and the Caribbean. In particular, the fruit pulp has antifungal properties against many fungal strains. We looked at the differences in belowground nutrient processes and the microbial community within(More)
Two maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids with varying degrees of resistance to damage by corn earworm (CEW) (Heliothis zea Boddie) were grown in Iowa, Georgia, and Missouri. Treatments included: introduction of Aspergillus flavus Link ex. Fr. spores onto newly-emerged silks, application of a fungicide as an aqueous spray onto test ears during the first three weeks(More)
The basic features of a modified buckle transducer for the direct in-situ measurement of tension in ligamentous or tendonous tissues are described. The slender shape of the modified design allows measurement in ligaments located in confined spaces with reduced risk of physical interference between the transducer and adjacent bony structures. In addition,(More)

The interaction was studied among: 1) developing maize kernels (Zea mays L.); 2) European Corn Borer (ECB) (Ostrinia nubilalis Hubner); 3) and three fungal species,Aspergillus flavus Lk. ex Fr.,Penicillium oxalcium Currie and Thom, andFusarium moniliforme Sheld. Two hybrids with varying degrees of resistance to ECB stalk damage were grown in Iowa, Georgia,(More)
We discuss properties of the atmospheric water vapor above the high Andean plateau region known as the Llano de Chajnantor, in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile. A combination of radiometric and radiosonde measurements indicate that the median column of precipitable water vapor (PWV) above the plateau at an elevation of 5000 m is approximately 1.2 mm.(More)
The inherent surface charges and small diameters that confer colloidal stability to gold particle conjugates (immunogold) are detrimental to rapid cell surface labeling and distinct cluster definition in flow cytometric light scatter assays. Although the inherent immunogold surface charge prevents self aggregation when stored in liquid suspension, it also(More)
