Eighty-two high performance young male fast bowlers (mean age 16.8 years) were tested immediately prior to the season for selected kinanthropometric and physiological data. Subjects were also filmed both laterally (200 Hz) and from above (100 Hz) while bowling so that their front foot impacted a force platform during the delivery stride. The players then… (More)
The sensitivity of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients who undergo transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cirrhosis is not known. We prospectively evaluated 24 patients with known HCC who underwent MRI and subsequent transplantation within 60 days (mean, 20 days). Using a phased-array coil at 1.5T, breath-hold turbo STIR and… (More)
Providing transplantation opportunities for patients with incompatible live donors through kidney paired donation (KPD) is seen as one of the important strategies for easing the crisis in organ availability. It has been estimated that an additional 1000-2000 transplants per year could be accomplished if a national KPD program were implemented in the United… (More)
OBJECTIVE Our aim was to investigate the feasibility of MR imaging as a comprehensive preoperative imaging test for examination of liver donor candidates for adult-to-adult right lobe transplantation. SUBJECTS AND METHODS Twenty-five consecutive donor candidates were examined at 1.5 T using a torso phased array coil with breath-hold T1- and T2-weighted… (More)
Malignant cartilaginous tumours of the larynx are very rare, and usually arise from the cricoid cartilage. We report the first documented case of a chondrosarcoma of the epiglottis. The diagnosis, histology and treatment of these tumours are discussed.
PURPOSE To assess prospectively the ability of quantitative low-dose three-dimensional magnetic resonance (MR) renography to help identify the cause of acute graft dysfunction. MATERIALS AND METHODS This HIPAA-compliant study was approved by the institutional review board, and written informed consent was obtained. Between December 2001 and May 2009,… (More)
PURPOSE To assess the accuracy of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) measurements obtained with low-contrast agent dose dynamic contrast material-enhanced magnetic resonance (MR) renography in patients with liver cirrhosis who underwent routine liver MR imaging, with urinary clearance of technetium 99m ((99m)Tc) pentetic acid (DTPA) as the reference standard.… (More)
The age-related sex ratios for patients undergoing adenotonsillectomy and tonsillectomy have been calculated in different populations. Differences in these sex ratios have been found at different ages, and differences between populations have also been found. Various reasons are proposed to account for these findings.
A middle ear effusion is a common complication of nasopharyngeal carcinoma both before and after radiotherapy. An effusion was found in 38 per cent of patients before radiotherapy and 9 per cent developed an effusion after the start of radiotherapy. Surgical treatment by myringotomy with or without grommet insertion was associated with a high incidence of… (More)
Twenty-eight patients with nasal obstruction due to vasomotor rhinitis were assessed using anterior rhinomanometry before and six weeks after the operation of out-fracture and amputation of the posterior ends of the inferior turbinates. It was found that the operation did not significantly improve the nasal airway. Though just over half the patients had an… (More)
