Review of shape representation and description techniques
This paper identifies some promising techniques for image retrieval according to standard principles and examines implementation procedures for each technique and discusses its advantages and disadvantages.
A survey of content-based image retrieval with high-level semantics
This paper attempts to provide a comprehensive survey of the recent technical achievements in high-level semantic-based image retrieval, identifying five major categories of the state-of-the-art techniques in narrowing down the 'semantic gap'.
Shape-based image retrieval using generic Fourier descriptor
A generic Fourier descriptor (GFD) is proposed to overcome the drawbacks of existing shape representation techniques by applying two-dimensional Fourier transform on a polar-raster sampled shape image.
A review on automatic image annotation techniques
This paper analyzes key aspects of the various AIA methods, including both feature extraction and semantic learning methods and provides a comprehensive survey on automatic image annotation.
A Survey of Audio-Based Music Classification and Annotation
A comprehensive review on audio-based classification in MIR is provided and the difference in the features and the types of classifiers used for different classification tasks are stressed.
A comparative study on shape retrieval using Fourier descriptiors with different shape signatures
Shape is one of the most important features in Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR). Many shape representations and retrieval methods exists. However, most of those methods either do not well…
Study and evaluation of different Fourier methods for image retrieval
This paper studies different ways of acquiring Fourier descriptor, the number of FD features needed for general shape description and the retrieval performance of different FD, using a Java client–server retrieval framework.
Evaluation of MPEG-7 shape descriptors against other shape descriptors
Results show that Fourier descriptor (FD) outperforms CSSD, and that CSSD can be replaced by either FD or ZMD, and the two shape descriptors are also evaluated against each other.

A new image feature based on curvelet transform has been proposed, which significantly outperforms the widely used Gabor texture feature and compute the low order statistics from the transformed images.
