Evidence is provided that early secreted antigenic target protein 6 (ESAT-6), expressed by the virulent M. tb strain H37Rv but not by BCG, promotes vaccine-enhancing Th17 cell responses, which indicates that, in addition to Th1 immunity induced byBCG, RD1/ESAT 6-induced Th17 immune responses are essential for optimal vaccine efficacy.

The leaf extract and its fractions showed significant reduction in normal body temperature and yeast-provoked elevated temperature in a dose-dependent manner comparable to that of standard antipyretic drug paracetamol, indicating that both the fractions may contain antipYretic compounds which produce an additive effect in combination.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis Directs T Helper 2 Cell Differentiation by Inducing Interleukin-1β Production in Dendritic Cells
- V. Dwivedi, D. Bhattacharya, G. Das
- Biology, MedicineJournal of Biological Chemistry
- 18 July 2012
It is shown that IL-1β, produced by phagocytes infected by virulent M. tuberculosis strain H37Rv, directs Th2 cell differentiation, which in turn facilitates progression of TB by inhibiting host protective Th1 responses.
