Resistance and resilience of macroinvertebrates to irrigation water withdrawals
- S. W. Miller, D. Wooster, Judith L. Li
- Environmental Science

Summary
1. Water withdrawal for irrigated agriculture is one of the leading uses of freshwater resources in the world; however, effects of low flow disturbances on lotic ecosystems are poorly…
Prey Behavior, Prey Dispersal, and Predator Impacts on Stream Prey
- A. Sih, D. Wooster
- Environmental Science, Mathematics
- 1 July 1994
A framework for studying relationships between prey behavior, prey exchange, and predator impacts is suggested and the most interesting results concerned the profound effects of prey emigration behavior on the relationship between prey exchange and predator impact.
Predator impacts on stream benthic prey
- D. Wooster
- Environmental ScienceOecologia
- 1 September 1994
A meta-analysis on the results of field studies that manipulate predator density in enclosures suggests that on average predators have a significant negative effect on prey density, predatory invertebrates have a significantly stronger impact than predatory vertebrate, and predatory vertebrates do not differ in their impact on predatory versus herbivorous invertebrate prey.
A Review of the Drift and Activity Responses of Stream Prey to Predator Presence
- D. Wooster, A. Sih
- Environmental Science
- 1 May 1995
It is revealed that predatory invertebrates cause prey to increase drift rates more often than expected by chance, and directions for future research are suggested that include examining the impact that both types of predators have on prey emigration behavior and benthic density in the same system.
Branch-and-bound algorithms on a hypercube
- R. Pargas, D. Wooster
- Computer ScienceConference on Hypercube Concurrent Computers and…
- 3 January 1989
An implementation focusing specifically on efficient communication and load balancing algorithms for parallel implementation of branch-and-bound algorithms on multiprocessors is described.
Amphipod (Gammarus minus) responses to predators and predator impact on amphipod density
- D. Wooster
- Environmental ScienceOecologia
- 1 June 1998
Results lend support to theoretical work which suggests that prey behavioral responses to predators can mask the true impact that predators have on prey populations when experiments are conducted at small scales.
AN EXAMINATION OF THE IMPACT OF MULTIPLE DISTURBANCES ON A RIVER SYSTEM: TAXONOMIC METRICS VERSUS BIOLOGICAL TRAITS
- D. Wooster, S. W. Miller, S. Debano
- Environmental Science
- 1 December 2012
River reaches are often subject to multiple co‐occurring anthropogenic stressors. Disentangling the relative impacts of different stressors is important in developing river management strategies.…
Impact of season-long water abstraction on invertebrate drift composition and concentration
- D. Wooster, S. W. Miller, S. Debano
- Environmental ScienceHydrobiologia
- 15 April 2016
Surface water abstraction from rivers for irrigated agriculture is one of the largest uses of freshwater resources in the world. Water abstraction has important impacts on the structure of riverine…
