The results suggest that Listroderina originated within an area presently represented by the Central Chile, Paramo, Puna, Patagonia and Subantarctic subregions of the Andean region, and may be linked to major geological events of South America.
Areas of endemism and distribution patterns for Neotropical Piper species (Piperaceae)
Aim The study aimed to establish areas of endemism and distribution patterns for Neotropical species of the genus Piper in the Neotropical and Andean regions by means of parsimony analysis of…
This catalogue presents 256 species distributed in 32 genera, six tribes and three subfamilies recorded to Colombia. For each species we present the available geographical information and most…
Comparative histology of the vaginal-cloacal region in Squamata and its phylogenetic implications
Cloacal features provide interesting information that is useful as a source of morphological characters for phylogenetic studies in Squamata and contributes evidence that defines the relationships within Scleroglossa.
Parsimony analysis of endemicity describes but does not explain: an illustrated critique
The results show that PAE is unable to recover historical patterns and therefore does not fit into the current paradigm of historical biogeography, which raises doubts regarding conclusions derived from biogeographical studies that interpret PAE trees as area cladograms.
MartiTracks: A Geometrical Approach for Identifying Geographical Patterns of Distribution
Results from two empirical examples demonstrated that a geometrical approach to panbiogeography is a feasible quantitative method to determine general distribution patterns for taxa, reducing complexity, and the time needed for managing large data sets.
On Words, Tests, and Applications: Reply to Faith et al.
The objectives of the reply to Faith et al. (2003) are to demonstrate that their criticisms do not satisfy epistemological and methodological tenets and to compare some aspects of the methods used by Posadas et al (2001) and Faith etal.
Dengue virus serotype 3 (genotype III) from Colombia: A perspective of its pathogenic potential
The results suggest that DENV-3 could not play any important role in the occurrence of DHF in Colombia, and that local viruses are genetically distinct from Latin American viruses associated with epidemics ofDHF.
Phylogenetic analysis of Gigantodax (Diptera: Simuliidae)
A study of the monophyly and phylogenetic relationships among the Gigantodax species-groups was conducted and the following species groups are suggested: igniculus, cormonsi, minor, minor (containing “ minor ” + “ multifilis ”), brophyi, and “ wrighti ” groups are kept as inquerandae.
The database of the PREDICTS (Projecting Responses of Ecological Diversity In Changing Terrestrial Systems) project
To the knowledge, this is the largest and most geographically and taxonomically representative database of spatial comparisons of biodiversity that has been collated to date; it will be useful to researchers and international efforts wishing to model and understand the global status of biodiversity.
