Pharmacokinetics and radiation dosimetry for a commercial preparation of samarium-153 ethylene diamine tetramethylene phosphonate (EDTMP; Quadramet) were evaluated in 43 tracer studies of 42 patients with haematological malignancies and myelosuppression was achieved without evidence of myelofibrosis.

Early (d14) FDG-PET PMR is associated with improved PFS and OS, even in the absence of subsequent Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors response, and these data support inclusion of FDg-PET imaging in clinical trials testing novel targeted therapies, particularly those with anticipated cytostatic effects.

FDG SPECT performed with a specially collimated triple-head gamma camera depicted some cancers but had an unacceptably low sensitivity compared with PET for lesions less than 3 cm in diameter, suggesting PET is preferable for detecting small cancers.

FDG-PET accurately predicted regional node status in 88% of CMM cases, but the failure to detect micrometastatic disease may be due to the limitations of the imaging equipment and technique used here.
