Electron microscopic observations confirmed further that the mitochondria of the target germ cells were the most sensitive and the most severely damaged among cellular organelles in response to gossypol.

This paper reports the following characteristics of the inhibitory effect of gossypol acid on Na+, K+-ATPase activity in vitro: gOSSypol acetic acid 20μg/ml inhibited Na+- ATPase rapidly and obviously, and the inhibition for K+, which appeared to be non-competitive.
