Eight strains of Gram-negative, bacteroid-shaped, prosthecate bacteria, isolated from brackish water, the marine environment and activated sludge, were characterized using a polyphasic approach, determining that all strains were affiliated to the alphaproteobacterial genus Brevundimonas.
