Identification and Field Activity of a Male-Produced Aggregation Pheromone in the Pine Sawyer Beetle, Monochamus galloprovincialis
It is concluded that 2-undecyloxy-1-ethanol is a male-produced aggregation pheromone of M. galloprovincialis, the first example of a sex-specific compound in the cerambycid subfamily Lamiinae with significant behavioral activity in the field at a range sufficient to make it a useful trap bait. Identification of a Male-produced Aggregation Pheromone in the Western Flower Thrips Frankliniella occidentalis
This work reports the first identification of an aggregation pheromone in the order Thysanoptera, and the possible role of (R)-lavandulyl acetate, which was identified in naturally infested crops of sweet pepper grown in large plastic greenhouses in Spain. Expand
Identification of Components of Male-Produced Pheromone of Coffee White Stemborer, Xylotrechus quadripes
The coffee white stem borer, Xylotrechus quadripes Chevrolat, is the foremost pest of arabica coffee in India, Sri Lanka, China, Vietnam, and Thailand and a general, stereospecific synthetic route to the enantiomers of 2-hydroxy-3-alkanones from the en antiomers of ethyl lactate was developed. Attraction of Male European Tarnished Plant Bug, Lygus rugulipennis to Components of the Female Sex Pheromone in the Field
A blend of hexyl butyrate and (E)-4-oxo-2-hexenal was significantly attractive to male L. rugulipennis males, and this tertiary blend captured significantly greater numbers of males of the congeneric species Lygus pratensis than the binary mixture. Expand
Chemical basis for resistance in sweetpotato Ipomoea batatas to the sweetpotato weevil Cylas puncticollis
The aim of this work was to determine the basis of resistance in a sub-Saharan sweetpotato variety, New Kawogo, to the African sweetpotato weevil Cylas puncticollis. This insect feeds on the roots,Expand
Identification of major component of male-produced aggregation pheromone of larger grain borer,Prostephanus truncatus (Horn) (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae)
Male beetles of the larger grain borer,Prostephanus truncatus Horn (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) were shown to produce material causing an electroantennographic (EAG) response from both male and female beetles, and a synthetic compound elicited electrophysiological and behavioral responses significantly greater than those to structural analogs. Responses of Glossina pallidipes (Diptera: Glossinidae) to synthetic repellents in the field
It is concluded that these repellents do not provide any useful degree of protection against trypanosomiasis and the potent, unidentified repellent present in human odour might effectively complement the control of disease using trypanocidal drugs. Expand
The role of 1-octen-3-ol, acetone and carbon dioxide in the attraction of tsetse flies, Glossina spp. (Diptera: Glossinidae), to ox odour
In the Zambezi Valley of Zimbabwe, the numbers of Glossina morsitans morsitans Westwood and G. pallidipes Austen electrocuted on grids placed across their flight paths as they arrived at variousExpand
