Competition for acorns among wild boar ( Sus scrofa ) and small mammals in a Mediterranean woodland
- S. Focardi, D. Capizzi, D. Monetti
- Environmental Science
- 1 March 2000
The results show that wild boar are able to partly compensate for a reduced above-ground availability of acorns by predating on hoards collected by small mammals.
Comparative Diets of Three Populations of an Aquatic Snake (Natrix Tessellata, Colubridae) from Mediterranean Streams with Different Hydric Regimes
- L. Luiselli, D. Capizzi, E. Filippi, Claudio Anibaldi, L. Rugiero, M. Capula
- Environmental ScienceCopeia
- 1 May 2007
It was found that the seasonal desiccation of the stream-bed of one study area caused a shift in the diet composition of these snakes, with males and juveniles being the categories where the seasonal dietary shift was more evident.
Independent effects of habitat loss, habitat fragmentation and structural connectivity on the distribution of two arboreal rodents
- A. Mortelliti, G. Amori, L. Boitani
- Environmental Science
- 1 February 2011
The empirical findings indicate that structural connectivity and habitat loss may have additive effects on vertebrate distribution, and resources should not be invested in landscape linkages until their efficacy for the given level of suitable habitat has been assessed.
Experimental design and taxonomic scope of fragmentation studies on European mammals: Current status and future priorities
- A. Mortelliti, G. Amori, D. Capizzi, C. Rondinini, L. Boitani
- Environmental Science
- 1 April 2010
Habitat loss, habitat fragmentation and habitat degradation are the greatest threats to mammals in Europe and the rest of the world. Despite the fact that extensive literature exists, no…
Morphometric variation in the skulls of the crested porcupine Hystrix cristata from mainland Italy, Sicily, and northern Africa
- F. M. Angelici, D. Capizzi, G. Amori, L. Luiselli
- Environmental Science
- 2003
Based on the results from a PCA analysis, Italian H. cristata appeared on average to be grouped quite apart from conspecifics from Sicily and Africa, which were in contrast rather mixed.
Feeding habits of a Mediterranean community of snakes in relation to prey availability
- D. Capizzi, L. Luiselli, M. Capula, L. Rugiero
- GeographyRevue de Ecologie-La Terre et la Vie
- 1995
Les habitudes alimentaires de quatre especes sympatriques de serpents terrestres (Vipera aspis, Coluber viridiflavus, Elaphe longissima, Elaphe quatuor-lineata) ont ete etudiees dans une zone…
Comparative Food Habits and Body Size of Five Populations of Elaphe quatuorlineata: the Effects of Habitat Variation, and the Consequences of Intersexual Body Size Dimorphism on Diet Divergence
- E. Filippi, L. Rugiero, M. Capula, D. Capizzi, L. Luiselli
- Environmental ScienceCopeia
- 1 August 2005
Overall, females were significantly larger than males but the strength of these differences varied considerably with sample size, and Rodents were the most important prey source in most habitat types, although birds were preyed upon slightly more frequently in the wet habitat than rodents.
Rating the rat: Global patterns and research priorities in impacts and management of rodent pests
- D. Capizzi, S. Bertolino, A. Mortelliti
- Environmental Science, Biology
- 1 April 2014
An extensive literature review targeted towards identifying the most relevant rodent pests, their impacts and the most common methods used to control them, and will contribute towards guiding researchers and stakeholders to focus research efforts and investments on a subset of species, and on new, less hazardous control techniques.
Independent effects of habitat loss, habitat fragmentation and structural connectivity on forest‐dependent birds
- A. Mortelliti, S. Fagiani, C. Battisti, D. Capizzi, L. Boitani
- Environmental Science
- 1 November 2010
Aim Habitat loss and fragmentation are amongst the greatest threats to biodiversity world‐wide. However, there is still little evidence on the relative influence of these two distinct processes on…
Food resource partitioning of a community of snakes in a swamp rainforest of south-eastern Nigeria
- L. Luiselli, G. Akani, D. Capizzi
- Environmental Science
- 1 October 1998
There was no statistically significant difference between snake guilds as far asmean prey size is concerned, but the various species within each guild differed significantly in terms of mean prey size.
