Chemotherapy results in a modest, but significant improvement in survival in patients with inoperable lung cancer compared to best supportive care alone, and patients with good performance status benefited more from chemotherapy.

Metachronous bronchogenic carcinoma in a patient treated for cervical cancer.
A case of metachronous malignancy in an elderly postmenopausal lady who had previously been successfully treated for squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix and now four years later, presented with a right lower lobe lung abscess, found to have a small cell carcinomas of the lung involving the right intermediate andright lower lobe bronchus.

Clinical experience is limited to a single clinical trial that showed objective functional improvement in a small number of patients treated with IFN-gamma and low-dose corticosteroids, and further research is needed to characterise the efficacy, safety and optimum route of administration of this agent before it can be recommended for use in routine clinical practice.
