THE THIRD REPORT OF THE EXpert Panel on Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Cholesterol in Adults (Adult Treatment Panel III, or ATP III) constitutes the National Cholesterol Education…
Clinical guidelines on the identification, evaluation, and treatment of overweight and obesity in adults.
The aim of this guideline is to provide useful advice on how to achieve weight reduction and maintenance of a lower body weight and to note that prevention of further weight gain can be a goal for some patients.
Genome-wide association yields new sequence variants at seven loci that associate with measures of obesity
In total, 29 variants, some correlated, in 11 chromosomal regions reached a genome-wide significance threshold of P < 1.6 × 10−7 and included previously identified variants close to or in the FTO, MC4R, BDNF and SH2B1 genes, in addition to variants at seven loci not previously connected with obesity.
Project Joy: Faith Based Cardiovascular Health Promotion for African American Women
- L. Yanek, D. Becker, T. Moy, J. Gittelsohn, D. M. Koffman
- MedicinePublic health reports
- 1 January 2001
Church-based interventions can significantly benefit the cardiovascular health of African American women, and intervention participants achieved clinically important improvements in cardiovascular disease risk profiles one year after program initiation, which did not occur in the self-help group.
Many sequence variants affecting diversity of adult human height
Twenty-seven regions of the genome are identified with one or more sequence variants showing significant association with height and the strongest association was with SNPs in the ZBTB38 gene.
Large-scale association analysis identifies 13 new susceptibility loci for coronary artery disease
A meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies of coronary artery disease comprising 22,233 individuals with CAD and 64,762 controls of European descent followed by genotyping of top association signals found 13 loci newly associated with CAD at P < 5 × 10−8 and confirmed the association of 10 of 12 previously reported CAD loci.

A Meta-Analysis Identifies New Loci Associated with Body Mass index in Individuals of African Ancestry
A meta-analysis to examine the association of >3.2 million SNPs with BMI in 39,144 men and women of African ancestry and followed up the most significant associations in an additional 32,268 individuals ofAfrican ancestry provides strong support for shared BMI loci across populations, as well as for the utility of studying ancestrally diverse populations.
Genome-wide meta-analyses identifies 7 loci associated with platelet aggregation in response to agonists
Platelet function mediates both beneficial and harmful effects on human health, but few genes are known to contribute to variability in this process. We tested association of 2.5 million SNPs with…
Avoiding the high Bonferroni penalty in genome‐wide association studies
This study compares recently developed Meff methods and validate them by the permutation test with 10,000 random shuffles using two real GWAS data sets and shows that the simpleM method produces the best approximation of the permutations threshold, and it does so in the shortest amount of time.
