Introduced animals and their parasites: The cane toad, Bufo marinus, in Australia
- D. Barton
- Biology
- 1 September 1997
All the helminth parasites so far recorded from B. marinus in Australia have been acquired from local hosts, and the interaction of toads and nativa fauna via their parasites remains unknown.
Dynamics of natural infections of Rhabdias cf. hylae (Nematoda) in Bufo marinus (Amphibia) in Australia
- D. Barton
- BiologyParasitology
- 1 November 1998
Intensity of infection and length of nematode were both correlated with length of toad in the smaller size classes, and changes in parameters of Rh.
Pentastomid Parasites of the Introduced Asian House Gecko, Hemidactylus frenatus (Gekkonidae), in Australia
- D. Barton
- Biology
- 1 July 2007
Abstract Hemidactylus frenatus is reported as a host for the pentastome parasites Raillietiella frenatus and Waddycephalus sp. in Australia for the first time. Both adult and nymphal pentastomes were…
Correlating early evolution of parasitic platyhelminths to Gondwana breakup.

The presence of polystome parasites in specific anuran host clades and in discrete geographic areas reveals the importance of biogeographic vicariance in diversification processes and supports the occurrence and radiation of amphibians over ancient and recent geological periods.
Acanthocephalus bufonis (Acanthocephala) from Bufo marinus (Bufonidae: Amphibia) in Hawaii.
- D. Barton, S. Pichelin
- BiologyParasite
- 1 September 1999
There was a significant negative correlation between host length and intensity of infection with subadult toads having significantly higher infection levels than adult male and female toads.

Zeylanurotrerna spearei sp.n. (Digenea: Brachylaimidae) from the cane toad, Bufo marinus, in Australia
- THOMAS H. CRIBB, D. Barton
- Biology
- 1 July 1991
It is suggested that Z. spearei is an Australian species that has been acquired by the cane toad from a native host and is a brachylaimid rather than a urotrcmatid as originally proposed.
Family Notocotylidae Luhe, 1909
Ulastructural studies of ventral papillae show that they are not glandular, but their true function remains obscure, and studies on the long ventral ridges in genera such as Ogmogaster jagerskiold are required to determine whether these might be glandular.
A new genus of monogenean parasites (Capsalidae: Benedeniinae) from stingrays (Rajiformes: Dasyatidae) with a description of a new species from the long-tailed stingray Himantura uarnak Forsskål from…

The presence of haptoral papillae, noted previously in some species of Entobdella, perhaps indicates that the new genus is more closely related to entobdellids than to benedeniids.
Raillietiella indica (Pentastomida) from the Lungs of the Giant Toad, Bufo marinus (Amphibia), in Hawaii, U.S.A
The pentastome Raillietiella indica was collected from the introduced toad B. marinus in Oahu, Hawaii, U.S.A. and represents a new host record for this parasite, previously only recorded from Bufo melanostictus.
