A novel cationic surfactant solution is used to lyse blood cells and precipitate RNA and DNA. The RNA is recovered by extracting the pellet with a small volume of guanidinium isothiocyanate or formamide.
Phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA) induces p21WAF-1 expression in human myeloid leukaemic HL-60 cells. We show that this induction is specifically mediated by protein kinase C (PKC). In addition, the PKC inhibitor Ro 31-8220 with predominant PKC-alpha isoform specificity almost completely inhibited PMA-induced up-regulation of p21WAF1 in HL-60 cells as… (More)
Different neural net node computational functions are compared using feedforward backpropagation networks. Three node types are examined: the standard model, ellipsoidal nodes and quadratic nodes. After preliminary experiments on simple small problems, in which quadratic nodes performed very well, networks of differing nodes types are applied to the speech… (More)
Two Treponema pallidum haemagglutination assay (TPHA) tests (Wellcome and Fuzizoki) were compared with the automated reagin test and the automated Reiter protein complement-fixation test in a routine screening system. The Wellcome TPHA was shown to lack sensitivity, and it is recommended that it should be used at a lower screening dilution. The Fuzizoki… (More)
