Current trends in broadband mobile networks are addressed towards the placement of different capabilities at the edge of the mobile network in a centralised way. On one hand, the split of the eNB between baseband processing units and remote radio headers makes it possible to process some of the protocols in centralised premises, likely with virtualised… (More)
The exponential growth of video traffic and the outburst of novel video-based services is revealing the inadequacy of the traditional mobile network infrastructure. To respond to this and to many other demands coming from today’s society, the 5G and the Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) initiatives are proposing novel network architectures. In this context,… (More)
We demonstrate few-km reaches for PCIe-based optical fiber interconnections according to latency limitations, characterizing 16-Gb/s per lane Generation4 up to 10 km and confirming the Generation3 compliance of 2-km links employing suitable PCIe cards.
