BACKGROUND The indwelling venous catheter such as Dual-Cath or Twin-Cath is widely used in haemodialysis. Although the manufacturer recommends filling the catheter lumen with heparin after the dialysis session to prevent clotting, little is known about the systemic effects of such a procedure. METHODS Twenty haemodialysis patients with Dual-Cath were(More)
INTRODUCTION The congenital erythropoietic porphyria (Günther's disease) (CEP) is a rare autosomal recessively metabolic disease due to the deficit of uroporphyrinogen III cosynthetase, fourth enzyme of the porphyrin-heme biosynthesis. This disease is characterized by severe cutaneous photosensitivity with profound skin lesions, hemolytic anemia and excess(More)
Chylous ascites is a rare clinical entity often secondary to a lymphoma. In peritoneal dialysis even mild chylous ascites can cause cloudiness of the peritoneal effluent and thus lead to early diagnosis. Twelve cases of chylous ascites (defined by the presence of chylomicrons) among 230 patients with chronic renal failure treated in two peritoneal dialysis(More)
OBJECTIVES Approximately 16-27% of dialysis patients (DP) have no detectable antibodies after 5 intramuscular injections of hepatitis B vaccine and represent a group at high risk to contract hepatitis B virus. We report the efficacy of the intradermal route of a recombinant hepatitis B vaccine (r-HBV) in non-responsive dialysis patients in our dialysis(More)
BACKGROUND The number of elderly (≥75 years) patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) has increased markedly, including in the Limousin region, which has the oldest population in France. We retrospectively compared outcomes in elderly and non-elderly ESRD patients who started dialysis during two time periods. METHODS Baseline clinical characteristics,(More)
The pharmacokinetics of irinotecan and its metabolites has been widely studied. No pharmacokinetic data, however, are available in haemodialysis patients. We report two clinical cases of severe toxicity, one of which was fatal, in two haemodialysis patients treated with irinotecan for a metastatic colorectal cancer. In case no. 1, M.S., aged 71 years, was(More)
The purpose of a randomized trial achieved in a single centre (Fondation Bergonié, Bordeaux, France) was to compare chemotherapy alone (intravenous CMF) versus chemotherapy and hormonotherapy (CMF plus tamoxifen — 30 mg per day during 2 years), for patients with stage II breast carcinoma and positive values of estrogen and/or progesterone receptor (EPR)(More)
Patients with bad prognosis malignant lymphomas were treated by a combination of radiotherapy and polychemotherapy. After complete remission they were randomized: one group was treated by BCG in dermic scarification, the other one was not treated. The results do not ascertain BCG efficiency but justify the intensive reductive treatment.
