BACKGROUND Corin is a transmembrane protease that processes natriuretic peptides in the heart. Like many membrane proteins, corin is shed from the cell surface. METHODS AND RESULTS In this study, we obtained plasma samples from healthy controls and patients with heart failure (HF) and acute myocardial infarction. Soluble corin levels in plasma were(More)
Calcium-dependent calpains are a family of cysteine proteases that have been demonstrated to play key roles in both platelet glycoprotein Ibα shedding and platelet activation and altered calpain activity is associated with thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura. Calpain activators induce apoptosis in several types of nucleated cells. However, it is not clear(More)
Among 4,780 consecutive adult acute lymphoblastic/myeloblastic leukemia patients, we identified 117 (2.4%) patients with mixed-phenotype acute leukemia fulfilling WHO 2008 criteria; these were classified as: Blymphoid+ myeloid (n=64), T-lymphoid+myeloid (n=38), B+T-lymphoid (n=14) and trilineage (n=1). Of 92 patients karyotyped, 59 were abnormal and were(More)
Current antithrombotic drugs have an adverse effect on bleeding, highlighting the need for new molecular targets for developing antithrombotic drugs that minimally affect hemostasis. Here we show that LIMK1(-/-) mice have defective arterial thrombosis in vivo but do not differ from wild-type mice with respect to bleeding time. LIMK1(-/-) mice show a(More)
We conducted this randomized trial to investigate the efficacy and safety of rapamycin treatment in adults with chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Eighty-eight patients were separated into the control (cyclosporine A plus prednisone) and experimental (rapamycin plus prednisone) groups. The CD4⁺CD25⁺CD127(low) regulatory T (Treg) cells level, Foxp3 mRNA(More)
Thrombotic events are common and potentially fatal complications in patients receiving hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Early diagnosis is crucial but remains controversial. In this study, we investigated the early alterations of hemostatic parameters in allogeneic HSCT recipients and determined their potential diagnostic values in(More)
INTRODUCTION The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of decitabine in Chinese patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). METHODS Patients (≥18 years) who had a de novo or secondary MDS diagnosis according to French-American-British classification and an International Prognostic Scoring System score ≥0.5 were enrolled and(More)
Mounting evidence has been shown that integrin-mediated cellular adhesion confers resistance to chemotherapy of multiple myeloma. The molecular mechanism underlying cell adhesion-mediated drug resistance (CAM-DR) is, however, poorly understood. In this report, we demonstrated that RPMI 8,226 cells accumulated p27Kip1 in the nucleus when they were adhered to(More)
We developed a novel murine monoclonal antibody (mAb) against the C-terminal α-helix of the human von Willebrand factor A2, designated SZ-179. We showed that SZ-179 inhibited the interactions between VWF and ADAMTS13 and prevented the degradation of high molecular weight VWF multimers. Importantly, SZ-179 reduced the proteolysis of VWF-R1597W mutant by(More)
Herein, we describe the establishment and characterization of the first mixed-phenotype acute leukemia cell line (JIH-5). The JIH-5 cell line was established from leukemia cells with B lymphoid/myeloid phenotype from a female mixed-phenotype acute leukemia patient. JIH-5 cells exhibit an immunophenotype comprised of myeloid and B lymphoid antigens.(More)
