New approaches to the ecological risk assessment of multiple stressors
TLDR
The limitations of the current risk-assessment approaches are discussed and how multiple stressors at large scales can be better evaluated in ecological risk assessments to inform the development of more efficient and preventive management policies based on adaptive management in the future.
Toxicity of the Insecticide Terbufos, its Oxidation Metabolites, and the Herbicide Atrazine in Binary Mixtures to Ceriodaphnia cf dubia
TLDR
The high toxicities of terbufos and its environmentally persistent oxidative metabolites suggest that contamination of aquatic systems with this insecticide mixture and the coapplied herbicide atrazine might pose a greater hazard to some biota than their individual toxicities.
Hormonal induction of spermiation, courting behavior and spawning in the southern bell frog, Litoria raniformis.
TLDR
Intralymphatic administration of Lucrin(®), a synthetic nonapeptide luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LHRH), was used successfully to induce courting behaviors and ejaculation of spermatozoa in males and failed to promote oviposition and spawning in females.
A low concentration of atrazine does not influence the acute toxicity of the insecticide terbufos or its breakdown products to Chironomus tepperi
TLDR
The high toxicities of terbufos and its environmentally persistent oxidation products suggest that contamination of aquatic systems with this insecticide pose a threat to aquatic organisms whether or not atrazine is also present.
