This study provides a potential standardized definition for frailty in community-dwelling older adults and offers concurrent and predictive validity for the definition, and finds that there is an intermediate stage identifying those at high risk of frailty.
Docetaxel and estramustine compared with mitoxantrone and prednisone for advanced refractory prostate cancer.
The improvement in median survival of nearly two months with docetaxel and estramustine, as compared with mitoxantrone and prednisone, provides support for this approach in men with metastatic, androgen-independent prostate cancer.
Neoadjuvant chemotherapy plus cystectomy compared with cystectomy alone for locally advanced bladder cancer.
Using neoadjuvant methotrexate, vinblastine, doxorubicin, and cisplatin followed by radical cystectomy increases the likelihood of eliminating residual cancer in the Cystectomy specimen and is associated with improved survival among patients with locally advanced bladder cancer.
The influence of finasteride on the development of prostate cancer.
Finasteride prevents or delays the appearance of prostate cancer, but this possible benefit and a reduced risk of urinary problems must be weighed against sexual side effects and the increased risk of high-grade prostate cancer.
Prevalence of prostate cancer among men with a prostate-specific antigen level < or =4.0 ng per milliliter.
Biopsy-detected prostate cancer, including high-grade cancers, is not rare among men with PSA levels of 4.0 ng per milliliter or less--levels generally thought to be in the normal range.

Guideline for the management of clinically localized prostate cancer: 2007 update.
Assessing prostate cancer risk: results from the Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial.
Higher PSA level, abnormal DRE result, older age at biopsy, and African American race were predictive for high-grade disease, whereas a previous negative prostate biopsy was associated with reduced risk.
Adjuvant radiotherapy for pathological T3N0M0 prostate cancer significantly reduces risk of metastases and improves survival: long-term followup of a randomized clinical trial.
Increased blood glucose and insulin, body size, and incident colorectal cancer.
These data provide the first direct evidence of an association between elevated visceral adipose tissue level, its associated metabolic effects, and colorectal cancer.
