When should a DDH experiment be mandatory in microbial taxonomy?
- Jan P. Meier-Kolthoff, M. Göker, C. Spröer, H. Klenk
- BiologyArchives of Microbiology
- 17 April 2013
Whether or not, and in which situations, this threshold value might be too conservative, is investigated, which means up to half of the currently conducted DDH experiments could safely be omitted without a significant risk for wrongly differentiated species.
Chryseobacterium hispalense sp. nov., a plant-growth-promoting bacterium isolated from a rainwater pond in an olive plant nursery, and emended descriptions of Chryseobacterium defluvii,…

A novel non-motile, Gram-staining-negative, yellow-pigmented bacterium, designated AG13(T), isolated from a rain water pond at a plant nursery in Spain and characterized as a plant-growth-promoting…
Characterization of the first cultured representative of Verrucomicrobia subdivision 5 indicates the proposal of a novel phylum
It is proposed that strain L21-Fru-ABT and related bacteria are specifically adapted to the utilization of sulfated glycopolymers produced in microbial mats or biofilms.

Pedobacter cryoconitis sp. nov., a facultative psychrophile from alpine glacier cryoconite.
- R. Margesin, C. Spröer, P. Schumann, F. Schinner
- BiologyInternational Journal of Systematic and…
- 1 September 2003
A facultatively psychrophilic, Gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped strain, A37(T), was isolated from alpine glacier cryoconite and showed activities of oxidase, catalase, DNase, protease (gelatin, casein), amylase, beta-glucosidase and beta-lactamase and degraded oil hydrocarbons.
Characterisation, genome size and genetic manipulation of the myxobacterium Sorangium cellulosum So ce56
- S. Pradella, A. Hans, C. Spröer, H. Reichenbach, K. Gerth, S. Beyer
- Biology, EngineeringArchives of Microbiology
- 1 October 2002
S. cellulosum So ce56 was phenotypically and genotypically analysed in order to evaluate whether this strain can be used in a comprehensive genome project as a representative of the secondary metabolite-producing myxobacteria, and was found to have various advantageous features.
Characterization of Vibrio viscosus and Vibrio wodanis isolated at different geographical locations: a proposal for reclassification of Vibrio viscosus as Moritella viscosa comb. nov.
- E. Benediktsdóttir, L. Verdonck, C. Spröer, S. Helgason, J. Swings
- BiologyInternational Journal of Systematic and…
- 1 March 2000
The results revealed that the V. viscosus and V. wodanis strains are heterogeneous genotypically and phenotypically, and a reclassification of Vibrio Viscosus as Moritella viscosa comb is proposed.

- BiologyInternational Journal of Systematic Bacteriology
- 1 October 1999
The phylogenetic relationships of the type strains of 38 species from 15 genera of the family Enterobacteriaceae were investigated by comparative 16S rDNA analysis, finding that Buttiauxella and Citrobacter share type strains greater than 99%.

- H. Rheims, C. Spröer, F. Rainey, E. Stackebrandt
- BiologyMicrobiology
- 1 October 1996
Comparison with short 16S rDNA clone sequences obtained from DNA isolated from soil in Australia, Japan and Finland and marine environments from the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans, suggests that members of these three groups occur in very different environments across the world.
Halobacillus karajensis sp. nov., a novel moderate halophile.
- M. Amoozegar, F. Malekzadeh, K. Malik, P. Schumann, C. Spröer
- BiologyInternational Journal of Systematic and…
- 1 July 2003
