A new equation to estimate glomerular filtration rate.
The CKD-EPI creatinine equation is more accurate than the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease Study equation and could replace it for routine clinical use. Expand
Estimating glomerular filtration rate from serum creatinine and cystatin C.
The combined creatinine-cystatin C equation performed better than equations based on either of these markers alone and may be useful as a confirmatory test for chronic kidney disease. Expand
Quantitative Synthesis in Systematic Reviews
A quantitative systematic review, or meta-analysis, uses statistical methods to combine the results of multiple studies. Meta-analyses have been done for systematic reviews of therapeutic trials,… Expand
Self-management education for adults with type 2 diabetes: a meta-analysis of the effect on glycemic control.
Self-management education improves GHb levels at immediate follow-up, and increased contact time increases the effect, suggesting that learned behaviors change over time. Expand
Recommendations for examining and interpreting funnel plot asymmetry in meta-analyses of randomised controlled trials
- J. Sterne, A. Sutton, +16 authors J. Higgins
- Mathematics, Medicine
- BMJ : British Medical Journal
- 22 July 2011
How to interpret funnel plot asymmetry, recommends appropriate tests, and explains the implications for choice of meta-analysis model are described. Expand
Closing the Gap between Methodologists and End-Users: R as a Computational Back-End
- Byron C. Wallace, I. Dahabreh, T. Trikalinos, J. Lau, Paul Trow, C. Schmid
- Computer Science
- 30 June 2012
This paper presents open-source meta-analysis software that uses R as the underlying statistical engine, and Python for the GUI, and a framework that allows methodologists to implement new methods in R that are then automatically integrated into the GUI for use by end-users, so long as the programmer conforms to the interface. Two controlled trials of antibiotic treatment in patients with persistent symptoms and a history of Lyme disease.
There is considerable impairment of health-related quality of life among patients with persistent symptoms despite previous antibiotic treatment for acute Lyme disease, and treatment with intravenous and oral antibiotics for 90 days did not improve symptoms more than placebo. Expand
Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and progression of nondiabetic renal disease. A meta-analysis of patient-level data.
Antihypertensive regimens that include ACE inhibitors are more effective than regimens without ACE inhibitors in slowing the progression of nondiabetic renal disease and is greater in patients with proteinuria. Expand
Semi-automated screening of biomedical citations for systematic reviews
- Byron C. Wallace, T. Trikalinos, J. Lau, C. Brodley, C. Schmid
- Medicine, Computer Science
- BMC Bioinformatics
- 26 January 2010
A semi-automated citation screening algorithm for systematic reviews has the potential to substantially reduce the number of citations reviewers have to manually screen, without compromising the quality and comprehensiveness of the review. Expand
Evaluation of the modification of diet in renal disease study equation in a large diverse population.

- Journal of the American Society of Nephrology…

The MDRD Study equation provides unbiased and reasonably accurate estimates across a wide range of subgroups when eGFR is <60 ml/min per 1.73 m(2), and in individual patients, interpretation of GFR estimates should be interpreted with caution to avoid misclassification of chronic kidney disease in the context of the clinical setting.
