MorphoJ: an integrated software package for geometric morphometrics
- C. Klingenberg
- BiologyMolecular Ecology Resources
- 1 March 2011
The MorphoJ software offers an integrated and user‐friendly environment for standard multivariate analyses such as principal components, discriminant analysis and multivariate regression as well as specialized applications including phylogenetics, quantitative genetics and analyses of modularity in shape data.
GEOMETRIC MORPHOMETRICS OF DEVELOPMENTAL INSTABILITY: ANALYZING PATTERNS OF FLUCTUATING ASYMMETRY WITH PROCRUSTES METHODS
- C. Klingenberg, G. S. McIntyre
- Environmental ScienceEvolution; international journal of organic…
- 1 October 1998
There is no evidence that special developmental processes control fluctuating asymmetry, and some of the morphometric patterns are related to processes known to be involved in the development of fly wings.
Morphometric integration and modularity in configurations of landmarks: tools for evaluating a priori hypotheses
- C. Klingenberg
- BiologyEvolution & Development
- 1 July 2009
Escoufier's RV coefficient and the multi‐set RV coefficient are introduced as measures of the correlation between two or more subsets of landmarks and a criterion for spatial contiguity for sets of landmarks using an adjacency graph is proposed.
SHAPE ANALYSIS OF SYMMETRIC STRUCTURES: QUANTIFYING VARIATION AMONG INDIVIDUALS AND ASYMMETRY
- C. Klingenberg, M. Barluenga, A. Meyer
- Environmental ScienceEvolution; international journal of organic…
- 1 October 2002
A method for partitioning the total shape variation of landmark configurations with object symmetry into components of asymmetric variation among individuals and asymmetry is explained and some general recommendations for morphometric studies of symmetric shapes are provided.
Morphological Integration and Developmental Modularity
- C. Klingenberg
- Biology
- 31 October 2008
How development produces covariation between traits can have substantial implications for understanding genetic variation and the potential for evolutionary change, but research in this area has only begun and many questions remain unanswered.
Heterochrony and allometry: the analysis of evolutionary change in ontogeny
- C. Klingenberg
- BiologyBiological Reviews of The Cambridge Philosophical…
- 1 February 1998
This review examines how several methodological frameworks to analyse heterochrony compare ancestral and descendant ontogenies, emphasizing their differences and the potential for contradictory results from analyses using different frameworks.
Size, shape, and form: concepts of allometry in geometric morphometrics
- C. Klingenberg
- Environmental ScienceDevelopment, Genes and Evolution
- 1 April 2016
This review is the first systematic comparison of allometric methods in the context of geometric morphometrics that considers the structure of morphological spaces and their implications for characterizing allometry and performing size correction.
Evolution and development of shape: integrating quantitative approaches
- C. Klingenberg
- BiologyNature reviews genetics
- 1 September 2010
Quantitative studies of shape can characterize developmental and genetic effects and discover their relative importance, which integrate evo-devo and related disciplines into a coherent understanding of evolutionary processes from populations to large-scale evolutionary radiations.
Testing and quantifying phylogenetic signals and homoplasy in morphometric data.
- C. Klingenberg, N. Gidaszewski
- BiologySystematic Biology
- 1 May 2010
A test for the presence of a phylogenetic signal in morphometric data is proposed, which simulates the null hypothesis of the complete absence of phylogenetic structure by permutation of the shape data among the terminal taxa.
Analyzing Fluctuating Asymmetry with Geometric Morphometrics: Concepts, Methods, and Applications
- C. Klingenberg
- BiologySymmetry
- 2 June 2015
This review summarizes the concepts and morphometric methods for studying asymmetry of shape and size and explains the methods of geometric morphometrics and how they can be used to analyze asymmetric of biological structures.
