Characterization and Leaching Assessment of Ferronickel Slag from a Smelting Plant in Iligan City, Philippines
- Juvelyn S. Demotica, R. Amparado, R. M. Malaluan, C. Demayo
- Materials Science
- 2012
Iligan City ferronickel smelting plant is producing more than 500,000 metric tons (MT) of ferronickel slag annually which are deposited in the plant's premises since it has no economic value.…
Variations in Scale Morphology between Sexes of the Spotted Barb, Puntius Binotatus (Valenciennes, 1842) (Actinopterygii: Cyprinidae)
- Mary Ann M. Ganzon, M. Torres, J. J. Gorospe, C. Demayo
- Environmental Science
Scale morphology provides new and useful information for systematics. Scales have numerous hidden details in their structures that contribute effectively to fish identification and classification. A…
Sexual Dimorphism in the Shell Shape of the Golden Apple Snail, Pomacea canaliculata (Lamarck) Using Geometric Morphometric Analysis
- C. S. Moneva, A. Torres, C. Demayo
- Environmental Science, Biology
- 1 December 2012
Results clearly indicate that geometric morphometric methods are useful in detecting subtle differences between sexes in P. canaliculata and demonstrate sexual differences in size, spire height, and shell opening.
Morphological variations on the pronotum of the hispid beetle p. Reichei from eight Mindanao populations
- M. Ronald, S. Manseguiao, C. Demayo
- Environmental Science
- 1 October 2015
Comparisons between the populations showed that the mean shape of most of the populations were close to the consensus shape however some locations show indicating an adaptive capability in new environments particularly along the anterolateral region and basal margin.
Geometric morphometric tools in the analysis of shell shape of twelve local populations of the invasive snail Achatina fulica Bowdich from the Philippines
- Virgilio G. Dela Rosa, M. Torres, C. Demayo
- Environmental ScienceInternational Conference on Environmental…
- 7 October 2010
The shape of the giant African snail Achatina fulica Bowdich by visual examination seems to vary geographically. To test this observation, geometric morphometric analysis on a total of 976 A. fulica…
Variability in head shapes in three populations of the Rice Bug Leptocorisa oratorius (Fabricius) (Hemiptera: Alydidae)
- M. Torres, Jade Lumansoc, C. Demayo
- Biology
- 1 June 2010
The rice bug, Leptocorisa oratorius (Fabricius) is an insect pest of rice that feeds on developing rice grains reducing the yield and quality of rice. Identification of this pest has been vague owing…
Landmark and outline methods in describing petal, sepal and labellum shapes of the flower of Mokara orchid varieties.

Describing variations in scales between sexes of the yellowstriped goatfish, Upeneus vittatus (Forskål, 1775) (Perciformes: Mullidae)
- Dulce-Amor P. Matondo, M. Torres, S. Tabugo, C. Demayo
- Environmental Science
- 1 June 2010
It is demonstrated that scale characteristics can provide useful taxonomic information on the morphological differences between sexes of U. vittatus and that elliptic Fourier analysis and principal Component analysis are good tools to discriminate variation in scale shapes.
