BRK/Sik expression in the gastrointestinal tract and in colon tumors.
TLDR
The BRK tyrosine kinase appears to play a role in signal transduction in the normal gastrointestinal tract, and its overexpression may be linked to the development of a variety of epithelial tumors. Expand
Mutations in Sox18 underlie cardiovascular and hair follicle defects in ragged mice
TLDR
It is found that Sox18 is expressed in the developing vascular endothelium and hair follicles in mouse embryos, and this region contains point mutations in Sox18 in two different Ra alleles that result in missense translation and premature truncation of the encoded protein. Expand
Genomic structure and chromosomal mapping of the murine and human Mbd1, Mbd2, Mbd3, and Mbd4 genes
TLDR
The genomic structure and chromosomal localization of the human and murine Mbd1, MBD2, Mbd3, and Mbd4 genes are described and it is found that the highly similar MBD2 and MBD3 proteins are encoded by genes that map to different chromosomes in humans and mice but show a similar genomic structure. Expand
The lethal mutation of the mouse wasted (wst) is a deletion that abolishes expression of a tissue-specific isoform of translation elongation factor 1alpha, encoded by the Eef1a2 gene.
TLDR
Data suggest that there are tissue-specific forms of the translation elongation apparatus essential for postnatal survival in the mouse, and takes over from Eef1a2 in heart and muscle at precisely the time at which the wasted phenotype becomes manifest. Expand
Structural Models of Human eEF1A1 and eEF1A2 Reveal Two Distinct Surface Clusters of Sequence Variation and Potential Differences in Phosphorylation
TLDR
The revelation and putative functional assignment of two distinct sub-clusters on the surface of the protein models should enable rational site-directed mutagenesis, including homologous reverse-substitution experiments, to map surface binding patches onto these proteins. Expand
A linkage map for the hybridising toads Bombina bombina and B. variegata (Anura: Discoglossidae)
TLDR
A linkage map of 28 codominant and 10 dominant markers in the Bombina genome is presented and it is noted a preponderance of compound and frequently interleaved CA–TA repeats as well as a striking polarity at the 5′ end of the repeats. Expand
Translation elongation factor eEF1A2 is a potential oncoprotein that is overexpressed in two-thirds of breast tumours
TLDR
The novel finding that although eEF1A2 is barely detectable in normal breast it is moderately to strongly expressed in two-thirds of breast tumours is reported, which is strongly associated with estrogen receptor positivity. Expand
Eukaryotic elongation factor 1 complex subunits are critical HIV-1 reverse transcription cofactors
TLDR
Protein fractionation combined with an endogenous reverse transcription assay indicates that eEF1 subunits are critical RTC stability cofactors required for efficient completion of reverse transcription. Expand
Progressive loss of motor neuron function in wasted mice: effects of a spontaneous null mutation in the gene for the eEF1 A2 translation factor.
TLDR
It is concluded that spontaneous failure of eEF1A2 expression in the wasted mutant first triggers gliosis in spinal cord and retraction of motor nerve terminals in muscle, and then motor neuron pathology and death. Expand
Towards high resolution maps of the mouse and human genomes--a facility for ordering markers to 0.1 cM resolution. European Backcross Collaborative Group.
TLDR
EUCIB provides the first genetic mapping resource specifically designed for the high resolution mapping of all regions of the mouse genome and will underpin the global physical mapping of the Mouse genome. Expand
