Journals and Conferences
The work of the stoma-care nurse is discussed. Emphasis is laid on the need to liaise with other health professionals also concerned with the patient in hospital and in the community. Some specific problems of stoma patients are also discussed.
I welcome the initiative to teach nurses to include mindfulness and stress management in their personal development (news July 18) and for this to count towards four hours of their continuing professional development.
The article on grief and bereavement theories (art&science June 16) gave a useful overview. However, when running courses on grief, loss and bereavement, I have noticed that nurses often seem to use two separate mental compartments.
