Since 6 years, the totally extraperitoneal laparoscopic hernia repair has become our procedure of choice to manage inguinal hernia in adult patients, especially for bilateral hernias and recurrences after classical anterior repair. Between March 1993 and March 1999, 976 patients underwent 1259 hernia repairs by an endoscopic total extraperitoneal approach.(More)
Herein, we have reported a case of a 62-year-old patient who presented at 10 months after renal transplantation with a nodular mass on the dorsum of his foot. Local excision was performed and an acral myxoinflammatory fibroblastic sarcoma was diagnosed. This is a rare, low-grade sarcoma with a high rate of local recurrence, sometimes leading to amputation.(More)
BACKGROUND Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) has become a popular one-stage bariatric procedure with a proven efficacy on weight loss. However, the relationship between LSG and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) remains a subject of debate. The objective is to determine the long-term effect of LSG on weight loss and reflux disease. METHODS A(More)
There is increasing evidence that both neurohumoral and hemodynamic factors play a role in disease progression in chronic heart failure (CHF). To examine the influence of the oral dopamine agonist ibopamine on these factors, we studied 20 rats with chronic myocardial infarction and CHF, and compared them with 20 normal rats. After 6 weeks, rats were(More)
The aim of this study was to determine the accuracy of registration and the precision of the resection volume in navigated hip arthroscopy for cam-type femoroacetabular impingement, using imageless and image-based registration. A virtual cam lesion was defined in 12 paired cadaver hips and randomly assigned to either imageless or image-based(More)
Fibromatosis or desmoid tumour of the breast is an extremely rare, locally aggressive tumour with a tendency to relapse. Nevertheless these tumours do not have metastatic potential. Early recognition and wide local excision of the tumour is the treatment of choice. We present a case of a desmoid tumour of the breast in a 67-year-old woman and provide a(More)
Multiple biomarkers improve prognostication for long-term mortality in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). However, one-third of mortality after STEMI occurs within initial discharge. Our objective was to determine whether multiple biomarkers (glucose, N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), and estimated glomerular filtration(More)
BACKGROUND Laparoscopic gastric bypass for morbid obesity is a technically demanding procedure partially because of the necessity to construct two anastomoses. In this study, a new technique to perform the entero-enterostomy is presented. METHODS We evaluated the procedure in a consecutive series of 100 patients who underwent laparoscopic gastric bypass.(More)
