Yield Response of Corn Subjected to Western Corn Root worm (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) Infestation and Lodging
Lodging must be an important factor in the relation between root worm infestation and yield loss as dry weight and yield were more consistently reduced by lodging than by rootworm infestation treatments.
Relationship of Root Ratings, Root Size, and Root Regrowth to Yield of Corn Injured by Western Corn Rootworm (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)
The results suggest that an index for regrowth should be used when relating root damage to grain yield, and that the relationships between root ratings, root size, root regrowth, and grain yield are not consistent.

A significant nitrogen by rootworm interaction on grain yields provided evidence that root injury interferes with nitrogen uptake and the disruption of phenology of the injured corn plants appeared to be the result of decreased plant turgor resulting from WCR feeding.
