One 10.5 cm long gravid female eye worm Loa loa was recovered from the subconjunctival area of a 50 year old Indian lady with history of trekking in swamp areas in the Himalayas in Kumayun district, suffering from recurrent attacks of swelling, pain and redness of right eye and fleeting itchy rashes.
Relative expression of the 14-3-3 gene in different morphotypes of cysts of Echinococcus granulosus isolated from the Indian buffalo
- D. Pan, A. K. Bera, D. Bhattacharya
- BiologyJournal of Helminthology
- 15 February 2010
The presence of the 14-3-3 protein which until now had not been detected in the germinal layer of sterile organisms may contribute to the development and survival of the parasite in the host.

Transmission electron micrograph showed that infected different parts of peripheral membrane contain lipid globules started to diffuse continuously to form a large structure to occupy maximum OBs, whereas BV was observed in integument, mid gut and Malpighian tissues, and Interestingly, the infected mid gut cells were dilated in presence of OBs and gradually increased in number to form chain-like structure which broke up no sooner the number ofOBs reached highest carrying capacity.

- D. Pan, A. K. Bera, D. Bhattacharya
- BiologyMolecular Biology Reports
- 27 February 2011
It was concluded that AgB2 is the suitable immunological marker for detection, diagnosis and progression of the disease.
Relative expression of antigen B coding gene of bubaline isolates of Echinococcus granulosus in fertile and sterile cysts
- D. Pan, A. K. Bera, D. Bhattacharya
- MedicineJournal of Helminthology
- 28 September 2009
Cysts with germinal membrane, clear cyst fluid and protoscoleces showed uniform expression of the five isoforms of antigen B (AgB) and could not be correlated with respect to the condition of the cyst because AgB5 is typically expressed by the adult stage of the parasite.
Probstmayria bengalensis n.sp. (Cosmocercoidea: Atractidae) in captive Indian one horned rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) from Alipore Zoological Garden, Calcutta, West Bengal, India
Nematode specimens collected from the faeces of the Indian one horned Rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) in the Alipore Zoological Garden, Calcutta, India are diagnosed as a new species under genus…

The new species comes closer to X. chambersi and X. radicicola with greater c/) and hence deserves to be proposed as a new species and differs from the closely related species in having a distinct anterior uterine sac, much shorter pre-rectum and different tail shape.
Rhinoceronema unicornensis gen. n., sp. n. (Cosmocercoidea: Atractidae) from Indian one horned Rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis Linnaeus, 1758) captivated at the Alipore Zoological Garden, Kolkata,…
A new genus Rhinoceronema has been created to accommodate the present newly erected type species R. unicornensis, which differs from all other valid atractid genera in the features of cephalic region, cup-shaped buccal cavity with a pair of teeth, structure of the oesophagus and coarse transversely striated body.
