A digitally based radiometer system has been developed to improve RFI mitigation through the use of high temporal and spectral resolution, which includes a pulse-blanking algorithm that is capable of removing pulsed time-domain sources in real time.

The kurtosis algorithm is compared to a pulse detection algorithm operating under optimal RFI detection conditions and its probabilities of false alarm under RFI-free conditions and of detection when RFI is present are examined.

The Shapiro-Wilk test of normality for the detection of pulsed sinusoidal radio frequency interference in microwave radiometry is analyzed and it is shown that the S-W test produces comparable but degraded sensitivity compared to that of the kurtosis test in most cases.

An enhanced airborne system for observing radio-frequency interference effects on C-band microwave radiometers was developed, and the results obtained demonstrate qualitatively the improved RFI mitigation that can be achieved in brightness observations through the use of digital receivers.

The results of the study show that the cross-frequency algorithm provides good performance in detecting pulsed sinusoidal RFI at high duty cycles, including the case of continuous sinusoid interference.

Results show that the Shapiro-Wilk test can provide reasonable performance in detecting pulsed sinu-soidal RFI, and the effect of quantization is minimal in the sensitivity obtained.
