Spatial Tessellations: Concepts and Applications of Voronoi Diagrams
- A. Okabe, B. Boots, K. Sugihara
- Computer ScienceWiley Series in Probability and Mathematical…
- 1992
This paper presents generalizations of the Voronoi Diagrams, a model of Spatial Interpolation, and some of the algorithms used in this study to derive these generalizations.

Representations of Space and Time

It is a major premise of Peuquet's book that computer-based, spatial-temporal representations should be informed by human cognition, and her book divides her book into two (unequal) parts, possibly reflecting her belief that the balance in H-C interaction should be reversed.
Detecting spatial hot spots in landscape ecology
Hot spots are typically locations of abundant phenomena. In ecology, hot spots are often detected with a spatially global threshold, where a value for a given observation is compared with all values…
Spatial–temporal analysis of species range expansion: the case of the mountain pine beetle, Dendroctonus ponderosae
- C. Robertson, T. Nelson, D. Jelinski, M. Wulder, B. Boots
- Biology, Environmental Science
- 1 August 2009
The aim of this paper is to characterize the movement patterns of the mountain pine beetle in areas where range expansion is occurring, in order to describe the fine‐scale spatial dynamics of processes associated with mountain pine beetles range expansion.
Global and local spatial autocorrelation in bounded regular tessellations
- B. Boots, M. Tiefelsdorf
- Environmental ScienceJournal of Geographical Systems
- 14 December 2000
The results indicate that the normal approximation for Moran's I is not always feasible; the three tessellations induce different distributional characteristics of Moran’s I, and different spatial patterns of eigenvectors are associated with the three Tesselations.
Local measures of spatial association
- B. Boots
- Economics
- 1 January 2002
This paper reviews the development and use of local measures of spatial autocorrelation and presents a summary of the findings for all existing measures, explores unresolved issues in their application and considers likely directions for future work.
STAMP: spatial–temporal analysis of moving polygons
- C. Robertson, T. Nelson, B. Boots, M. Wulder
- Environmental ScienceJournal of Geographical Systems
- 4 April 2007
This research explores and extends an approach to the spatial–temporal analysis of polygons that are spatially distinct and experience discrete changes though time, and presents five new movement events for describing spatial processes: displacement, convergence, divergence, fragmentation and concentration.
Developing local measures of spatial association for categorical data
- B. Boots
- MathematicsJournal of Geographical Systems
- 1 August 2003
A procedure for extending local statistics to categorical spatial data using a small, empirical data set and an ad hoc procedure is developed to deal with the impact of global spatial autocorrelation on the local statistics.
The Exact Distribution of Moran's I
- M. Tiefelsdorf, B. Boots
- Mathematics
- 1 June 1995
In analogy to the exact distribution of the Durbin—Watson d statistic for serial autocorrelation of regression residuals, the exact small sample distribution of Moran's I statistic (or alternatively…
