First evidence for naturally occurring tumours in two species of Hydra is provided and shows that spontaneous tumours have deep evolutionary roots and that early branching animals may be informative in revealing the fundamental mechanisms of tumorigenesis.

A cytogenetic study of the common bed bug Cimex lectularius Linnaeus, 1758 is performed using both classical (Schiff-Giemsa and AgNO 3 -staining) and mo- lecular (base-specifi c DAPI/CMA 3 fl uorochromes and FISH with an 18S rDNA probe).
Karyotypes, male meiosis and comparative FISH mapping of 18S ribosomal DNA and telomeric (TTAGG) n repeat in eight species of true bugs (Hemiptera, Heteroptera)
- S. Grozeva, V. Kuznetsova, B. Anokhin
- BiologyComparative Cytogenetics

The insect consensus telomeric pentanucleotide (TTAGG)n was demonstrated to be absent in all the species studied in this respect, supporting the hypothesis that this motif was lost in early evolution of the Heteroptera and secondarily replaced with another motif (yet unknown) or the alternative telomerase-independent mechanisms of telomere maintenance.
The first finding of (TTAGG)n telomeric repeat in chromosomes of true bugs (Heteroptera, Belostomatidae)

- BiologyComparative Cytogenetics

This work has detected the first evidence of the insect-type TTAGG telomeric repeats in Heteroptera through fluorescence in situ hybridization.
Distribution of 18S rDNA sites and absence of the canonical TTAGG insect telomeric repeat in parasitoid Hymenoptera
- V. Gokhman, B. Anokhin, V. Kuznetsova
- BiologyGenetica
- 4 July 2014
No hybridization signals were obtained from FISH with the telomeric (TTAGG)n probe in the examined parasitoid species of aculeate Hymenoptera, and these data suggest absence of the canonical ( TTAGG-n)n insect telomersic motif in the Ichneumonoidea, Cynipoidea and ChalcidoideA, and perhaps in Parasitoid Hymanoptera in general.

- BiologyComparative Cytogenetics
- 11 May 2015
First cytogenetic study of ribosomal DNA clusters and telomeric repeats in seven blue butterflies of the genus Polyommatus Latreille with low and high chromosome numbers is presented using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) with 18S rDNA and (TTAGG)n telomere probes.

Analytical ultracentrifugation is employed to directly explore the oligomerization state of zymogen as well as active FXIIIA in solution, and provides evidence that FXIII undergoes a change in oligomerized state as part of the activation process, and emphasizes the role of theactivation peptide in preventing FXIIia catalytic activity.
