This study examined the impact of implementing a rotating dissection schedule on the attitudes and performance of first-year dental students in the gross anatomy laboratory at the University of Kentucky. In 2002-2003, half of the students assigned to each cadaver dissected the assigned objectives during the first 90 min of the laboratory session. During the(More)
Richardson's ground squirrels of both sexes were fed a 2% cholesterol-enriched rat chow diet for various intervals from 6 hours through 20 weeks. Bile was withdrawn from the organs and analyzed biochemically to obtain a lithogenic index. The remaining luminal contents were rinsed from the resected organs and examined by light and scanning electron(More)

The greatest problem for gross anatomy faculty is making the regions of the body below the neck relevant to dental students for their future clinical education as well as the longer term dental practice. Richardson's ground squirrels (Spermophilus richardsonii) of both sexes were fed a 2 per cent cholesterol-enriched rat chow diet for intervals of 1, 2, 10 and 20 weeks. Light microscopy and 3H-thymidine autoradiography revealed an increase in cell proliferation prior to the occurrence of macroscopically visible stones, but in the presence of crystals and(More)
This study reports the histological effects of topical misoprostol, a synthetic PGE1 analog, administered in varying dosages on the resting canine gastric mucosa. Misoprostol did not macroscopically or microscopically damage the mucosa but its presumed permeability effects on the gastric vasculature induced marked edema of the mucosa and submucosa.(More)
The authors have studied the effects of cimetidine on the healing of chronic gastric ulcers induced in rats. Gastric ulcers were produced by topical application of 60% acetic acid to the serosal surface of the lesser curvature of the stomach. Oral administration of cimetidine, 150 mg/kg daily, in two divided doses for a maximum of 14 days failed to produce(More)
