Allergic reactions to aprotinin, a polypeptide, have been reported on several occasions. A survey of 136 courses of aprotinin, given to patients with gastric cancer as a protease inhibitor, has shown an incidence of less than 1% of acute anaphylaxis and a similar incidence of minor allergic responses. Two cases of acute allergic responses are described.(More)
A two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel technique for the separation of proteins is described. Electrofocusing in a 3.5% polyacrylamide gel is followed by electrophoresis through a 4-24% concave polyacrylamide gel gradient. The method resolves a large number of serum proteins and produces highly reproducible patterns. It is particularly useful for studies(More)
Cyclic guanosine 3',5' monophosphate (cyclic GMP) and cyclic adenosine 3',5' monophosphate (cyclic AMP) have been determined in random urine specimens from 95 healthy individuals, 60 patients with non-cancerous conditions, 52 patients with benign tumours, and 74 patients with malignant tumours. Concentrations of cyclic GMP have also been determined in a(More)
A method is presented for the preparation of human liver alkaline phosphatase (orthophosphoric monoester phosphohydrolase, EC 3.1.3.1). The method gives a purification factor of 12.5 X 10(3) over the initial aq. butan-1-ol extract, a recovery of 6.0% and a specific activity for the preparation of 1450-1550 units/mg of protein, 1 unit being defined as the(More)
