PURPOSE We evaluated the long-term results and complications of endonasal pansinusoperation in chronic polypoid sinusitis. PATIENTS AND METHODS In a retrospective study, 170 patients were followed-up for 20 months to 10 years after bilateral endonasal microendoscopic pansinus surgery or ethmoidectomy. The follow-up consisted of a standardized(More)
BACKGROUND Dural lesions incurred during endonasal sinus surgery must be repaired surgically because of the risk of potentially fatal late meningitis. DESIGN Retrospective survey. SETTING Ear, nose, and throat department of a university teaching hospital. PATIENTS Consecutive sample of 47 patients who had undergone duraplasty for repair of a dural(More)
The instrumentation in Hall A at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility was designed to study electro-and photo-induced reactions at very high luminosity and good momentum and angular resolution for at least one of the reaction products. The central components of Hall A are two identical high resolution spectrometers, which allow the vertical(More)
We propose a measurement of the Deep Virtual Compton Scattering process (DVCS) ep → epγ in Hall A at Jefferson Lab with a 6 GeV beam. We are able to explore the onset of Q 2 scaling, by measuring a beam helicity asymmetry for Q 2 ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 GeV 2 at xB ≈ 0.35. At this kinematics, the asymmetry is dominated by the DVCS-Bethe-Heitler (BH)(More)
We show that the rare events present in dissipated work that enters Jarzynski equality, when mapped appropriately to the phenomenon of large deviations found in a biased coin toss, are enough to yield a quantitative work probability distribution for the Jarzynski equality. This allows us to propose a recipe for constructing work probability distribution(More)
The ratio of the proton's elastic electromagnetic form factors, G Ep ͞G Mp , was obtained by measuring P t and P ᐉ , the transverse and the longitudinal recoil proton polarization, respectively. For elastic ៬ ep ! e ៬ p, G Ep ͞G Mp is proportional to P t ͞P ᐉ. Simultaneous measurement of P t and P ᐉ in a polarimeter provides good control of the systematic(More)
The total entropy production fluctuations are studied in some exactly solvable models. For these systems, the detailed fluctuation theorem holds even in the transient state, provided initially that the system is prepared in thermal equilibrium. The nature of entropy production during the relaxation of a system to equilibrium is analyzed. The averaged(More)
We have measured the parity-violating electroweak asymmetry in the elastic scattering of polarized electrons from protons. Significant contributions to this asymmetry could arise from the contributions of strange form factors in the nucleon. The measured asymmetry is A = −15.05 ± 0.98(stat) ± 0.56(syst) ppm at the kinematic point θ lab = 12.3 • and Q 2 =(More)
We have performed an extensive analysis of a single-particle stochastic heat engine constructed by manipulating a Brownian particle in a time-dependent harmonic potential. The cycle consists of two isothermal steps at different temperatures and two adiabatic steps similar to that of a Carnot engine. The engine shows qualitative differences in inertial and(More)
Actin and myosin assemble into a thin layer of a highly dynamic network underneath the membrane of eukaryotic cells. This network generates the forces that drive cell- and tissue-scale morphogenetic processes. The effective material properties of this active network determine large-scale deformations and other morphogenetic events. For example, the(More)
