In this paper we present results for two tasks: social event detection and social network extraction from a literary text, Al-ice in Wonderland. For the first task, our system trained on a news corpus using tree kernels and support vector machines beats the baseline systems by a statistically significant margin. Using this system we extract a social network… (More)
In this paper, we present work on extracting social networks from unstructured text. We introduce novel features derived from semantic annotations based on FrameNet. We also introduce novel semantic tree kernels that help us improve the performance of the best reported system on social event detection and classification by a statistically significant… (More)
In this paper we present a demo of our system: Social Interaction Network Extractor from Text (SINNET). SINNET is able to extract a social network from unstructured text. Nodes in the network are people and links are social events.
