This prospective study evaluated the use of multi-slice CT (MSCT) for detection of clinically suspected left-sided colonic diverticulitis with regard to diagnosis, complications and alternative diagnoses. One hundred twenty patients with clinically suspected acute left-colonic diverticulitis underwent MSCT of the lower abdomen with IV contrast after rectal(More)
A sixfole increase in the risk of thyroid cancer was observed among 10,902 persons irradiated for scalp tinea in childhood as compared to two matched control groups. The dosimetry studies demonstrated that the original mean dose given to the thyroid was less than 9 rads, yielding a risk of 6.3/10(6)/year. This carcinogenic effect of low-level radiation must(More)
A cohort of 968 Israeli women treated with radiotherapy for infertility was followed up for cancer incidence. The majority of the subjects were irradiated to both the ovaries and the pituitary gland. Mean doses to the brain, colon, ovary and bone marrow were 0. 8, 0.6, 1.0 and 0.4 Gy, respectively. More than 10 years after radiation treatment, 60 cancers(More)
BACKGROUND Photodynamic therapy (PDT) with 5-amino-4-oxo-pentanoate (methylaminolevulinate, MAL) is an effective and safe treatment option for actinic keratoses. Light-emitting diodes (LED) are suitable light sources for topical PDT. To evaluate the efficacy, painfulness, patient satisfaction and cosmesis of LED-based PDT a prospective, randomized and(More)
Radiation doses received by premature babies X-rayed in an ICU were measured. The average dose for a single exposure was 12 mrad to the sternum, 10 mrad to the neck and 2–2.2 mrad to the gonads. The average number of X-ray exposures was 26.9 with 2 children being in the 100 > range. Radiation hazards due to a maximum possible dose of 1 rad are discussed.(More)
BACKGROUND This study evaluated mechanical properties of glass ionomer cements (GICs) used for atraumatic restorative treatment. Wear resistance, Knoop hardness (Kh), flexural (F(s)) and compressive strength (C(s)) were evaluated. The GICs used were Riva Self Cure (RVA), Fuji IX (FIX), Hi Dense (HD), Vitro Molar (VM), Maxxion R (MXR) and Ketac Molar Easymix(More)
Hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) is a familial, autosomal, dominant, multi-system, vascular, dysplasia.
