We present SimSensei Kiosk, an implemented virtual human interviewer designed to create an engaging face-to-face interaction where the user feels comfortable talking and sharing information. SimSensei Kiosk is also designed to create in-teractional situations favorable to the automatic assessment of distress indicators, defined as verbal and nonverbal(More)
The Distress Analysis Interview Corpus (DAIC) contains clinical interviews designed to support the diagnosis of psychological distress conditions such as anxiety, depression, and post traumatic stress disorder. The interviews are conducted by humans, human controlled agents and autonomous agents, and the participants include both distressed and(More)
We present FLoReS, a new information-state based dialogue manager, making use of forward inference, local dialogue structure, and plan operators representing sub-dialogue structure. The aim is to support both advanced, flexible, mixed initiative interaction and efficient policy creation by domain experts. The dialogue manager has been used for two(More)
The Twins corpus is a collection of utterances spoken in interactions with two virtual characters who serve as guides at the Museum of Science in Boston. The corpus contains about 200,000 spoken utterances from museum visitors (primarily children) as well as from trained handlers who work at the museum. In addition to speech recordings, the corpus contains(More)
We present a novel annotation scheme for cross-cultural argumentation and persuasion dialogues. This scheme is an adaptation of existing coding schemes on negotiation, following a review of literature on cross-cultural differences in negotiation styles. The scheme has been refined through application to coding both two-party and multi-party negotiation(More)
Advances in artificial intelligence and computer graphics digital technologies have contributed to a relative increase in realism in virtual characters. Preserving virtual characters’ communicative realism, in particular, joined the ranks of the improvements in natural language technology, and animation algorithms. This paper focuses on culturally relevant(More)
Language plays a crucial role in the formation and categoriza-tion of one's ethnic identity. Recent work on linguistic accent emphasizes the role of accent in person perception and social categorization, demonstrating that accent serves as a meaningful ethnic category indicator. In this paper, we examine whether accent can be used to implement(More)
This study describes the development to date of a computational full-body human phantom based on the VHP female dataset. Its unique feature is full compatibility both with MATLAB and specialized FEM computational software packages such as ANSYS HFSS/Maxwell 3D. Applications for low-frequency and radio-frequency electromagnetic modeling are considered.
