This paper reviews some of our recent applications of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to model heat and mass transfer problems in neonatology and investigates the major heat and mass transfer mechanisms taking place in medical devices such as incubators and oxygen hoods. This includes novel mathematical developments giving rise to a supplementary model,… (More)
Anthropometric, cephalometric, and dental data from 23 subjects (12 males and 11 females) afflicted with myotonic dystrophy were compared to similar data from normal subjects who participated in the Iowa Facial Growth Study. A two by two analysis of variance showed that myotonic subjects differed from normal subjects in headlength, head breadth, cephalic… (More)
Electrical stimulation of the reticular formation, pars oralis of the spinal trigeminal, abducens, and accessory abducens nuclei was used to assess the role of these sites in the elicitation, reflex modification, and classical conditioning of the rabbit's nictitating membrane response (NMR). Although electrical brain stimulation of the targeted sites… (More)
Randomly, a dosage of 0.6 mg/kg of either diazepam in solution or sodium chloride was dispensed rectally to twelve preschool children. Before the local anesthetic injection, each child was shown a toy and, before dismissal, asked to identify the toy displayed earlier. Amnesia was observed in the majority of children during the diazepam treatment appointment.
Electrical brain stimulation (EBS) was applied to four nuclei in the auditory system, namely, the cochlear nucleus (CN), superior olive (SO), inferior colliculus, and medial geniculate. EBS was also applied to the pontine nuclei, which are the main relays for transmitting auditory conditioned stimuli (CSs) into the cerebellar pathways for conditioning of… (More)
Elicitation of responses by electrical brain stimulation (EBS) was related to the synaptic distance of the target nucleus from the accessory abducens. Specifically, responses to EBS in the spinal trigeminal nucleus (TRIG) and red nucleus (RN) increased as a positive function of stimulation parameters. Responding to EBS in the interpositus nucleus (IP) was… (More)
1 Summary. Blood flow in a real geometry of aorta was analysed. The CFD analysis was performed using commercial ANSYS/Fluent code. Velocity profile was used to mimic inlet flow conditions during human cardiac cycle. Outlet pressure boundary condition was coupled with lumped parameter model (electrical analogy) of circulatory system. Streszczenie.… (More)
This paper reviews some of our recent applications of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to model heat and mass transfer problems in neonatology and investigates the major heat and mass-transfer mechanisms taking place in medical devices, such as incubators, radiant warmers and oxygen hoods. It is shown that CFD simulations are very flexible tools that can… (More)
