Autolysis of a homogenate from the human gastric mucosa results in the release of the reducing substances into the supernatant. The activities of the six glycosidases from the human gastric mucosa, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, N-acetyl-Beta-galactosaminidase, alpha-fucosidase, beta-galactosidase, alpha-mannosidase and alpha-glucosidase were determined.(More)
The toxic action of cadmium in the bone tissue is known, but its mechanisms are still unexplained. We examined whether Cd influences collagen content and its solubility in the femoral bone of three-week-old female rats exposed to 5 or 50 mg Cd/l in drinking water. Non-cross linked collagen was extracted with 0.5 M acetic acid, and two acid-insoluble(More)
Glycoconjugates, viz. glycoproteins, glycolipids and proteoglycans, play an important role in the protection of human gastric mucosa against pepsin and hydrochloric acid. The biosynthesis and catabolism of these compounds in the human gastric mucosa have been studied. We isolated and identified the majority of the intermediates and isolated some enzymes,(More)
Human salivary glands secrete two types of mucins: oligomeric mucin (MG1) with molecular mass above 1 MDa and monomeric mucin (MG2) with molecular mass of 200-250 kDa. Monomers of MG1 and MG2 contain heavily O-glycosylated tandem repeats located at the central domain of the molecules. MG1 monomers are linked by disulfide bonds located at sparsely(More)
The objective of this study was to determine whether galactosylation of immunoglobulin G (IgG) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) correlates with severity and duration of illness. Serum IgG glycosylation from 50 patients with RA in comparison with 30 healthy controls was analyzed. IgG from sera was isolated and monosaccharide composition was(More)
This paper describes a novel technique for purifying glycoproteins from porcine gastric mucus by preparative polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and electroelution. The method is based on the observation that the high-molecular-weight buffer/SDS-soluble mucins do not penetrate through the polyacrylamide gel, but remain on the gel surface. Mucus solution(More)
We describe an improved method for chemical deglycosylation of gastric mucin which involves: reduction, alkylation, desialylation, periodate oxidation with beta-elimination and two-steps of TFMSA/anisole treatment. The product was 96% deglycosylated protein with amino acid composition similar to purified mucin with apparent molecular weight of 90 kDa.
The effect of the novel aromatic bisamidine 1 on protein synthesis in cell-free translational system isolated from rat livers was studied. The bisamidine 1 caused inhibition of [14C]leucine incorporation into proteins proportionally to its concentration. To establish a precise mechanism of inhibition, we evaluated the effect of the bisamidine 1 on the(More)
