The history of complementary observables and mutual unbiased bases is reviewed. A characterization is given in terms of conditional entropy of subalgebras. The concept of complementarity is extended to non-commutative subalgebras. Complementary decompositions of a 4-level quantum system are described and a characterization of the Bell basis is obtained.(More)
In this paper, we examine a generalization of the symmetric informationally complete POVMs. SIC-POVMs are the optimal measurements for full quantum tomography, but if some parameters of the density matrix are known, then the optimal SIC POVM should be orthogonal to a subspace. This gives the concept of the conditional SIC-POVM. The existence is not known in(More)
High p T nonphotonic electron production in p þ p collisions at ffiffi ffi s p ¼ 200 GeV We present the measurement of nonphotonic electron production at high transverse momentum (p T > 2:5 GeV=c) in p þ p collisions at ffiffi ffi s p ¼ 200 GeV using data recorded during 2005 and 2008 by the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The(More)
An n-level quantum system is described by an n-dimensional Hilbert space H, or equivalently by the algebra Mn(C) of the n×n complex matrices. When an orthogonal basis of H is chosen, operators acting on H correspond to n×n matrices. A positive operator ρ of trace 1 is called state. If we choose and fix an orthonormal basis {e1, e2, . . . , en}, then a state(More)
