This study was designed to test a new rating observational scale for the diagnosis and grading of pain evoked by cancer in children aged 2-6 years. We began by collecting retrospective clinical findings consisting of descriptions of children in pain. From these descriptions, an item scale was built up comprising overall patterns of behavior specific to(More)
BACKGROUND This study aimed to estimate survival at 5 years by localization, sex and stage of the patients who presented a new cancer in 1994 in the Ile-de-France area. METHODS A cohort study began in 1994 by an exhaustive collection of the incidental cancers notified in the Ile-de-France area at the health insurance (27,080 patients). A stratified random(More)
This retrospective analysis was conducted on breast cancer patients treated by radiotherapy alone at The Princess Margaret Hospital and at the Institut Gustave-Roussy. These patients had either operable tumors, but were unfit for general anesthesia, or had inoperable tumors due to local contraindications to surgery. Previous results showed that a radiation(More)
With 7,172 deaths in 1982, prostatic cancer is a frequent cancer in France observed among old men, coming just after the lungs cancers and representing 9.6% of male mortality from malignant disease. Its incidence in the French regional population based on departmental registries is about 25/100.000 (age adjusted to the world standard population). The(More)
This note derives the power of the test comparing the mortality of a cohort to the mortality of a reference population. The principle of the comparison is recalled i.e. computation of the standardised mortality radio (SMR) and test of the null hypothesis: SMR = 1. It is shown how one can compute the power of the test. A numerical example is given.
BACKGROUND Despite multiple published studies reporting result of salvage regimens for relapsed and refractory Hodgkin's lymphoma, there are no comparisons of different combinations. PATIENTS AND METHODS A Total of 44 patients identified with refractory or relapsed Hodgkin's Lymphoma were considered eligible for this study. The Patients were randomly(More)
The relationship is given between French pancreatic cancer mortality rates form 1968 to 1976, and some nutritional variables and tobacco. Positive correlations were found between the death rate from pancreatic cancer and sugar, egg and cereal consumption; however, a negative correlation was found with tobacco consumption. A stepwise multiple regression(More)
Statcan is an interactive system for consulting cancer mortality and incidence data in France. This system is accessible through the Minitel network and provides information concerning cancer mortality: number of deaths, basic rates, standardized rates for the French, European and world population, cumulative rates up to the age of 74 years as well as(More)
In France mortality statistics are the only complete source of information on cancer. Investigation of the annual figures and the application of statistical methods to their presentation and analysis has facilitated fresh studies of geographical pathology, utilizing methods of analysis with simple and multiple correlations (analysis of correlations).(More)
Two hundred and fifty three children with newly diagnosed nonmetastatic rhabdomyosarcoma, from 30 European centers, were registered by the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP) between 1975 and 1982, and received a VAC-VAD chemotherapy. Multivariate statistical methods were used to study prognosis. The most important predictors for survival(More)
