Fish assemblage in a dammed tropical river: an analysis along the longitudinal and temporal gradients from river to reservoir
The seasonal flow of the river is the major driving factor to influence the fish assemblage structure along the longitudinal gradient from the river to the reservoir, although no differences in abundance and biomass occur.
Evidence of morphological differences between Astyanax bimaculatus (Actinopterygii: Characidae) from reaches above and below dams on a tropical river
Geometric morphometric analysis of the body shape revealed that individuals inhabiting reservoirs were deeper-bodied and had longer dorsal and anal-fin bases compared with individuals from the rivers, features associated with body shape adaptation to lentic environments, and showed that connectivity between reservoir and river habitats appears to have constrained morphological differentiation.
Distribution and size of the mojarra Diapterus rhombeus (Cuvier) (Actinopterygii, Gerreidae) in a Southeastern Brazilian bay
Distinct size classes occupying different bay zones suggest that the age-groups optimize their coexistence by partitioning the available resources, avoiding intra-specific competition.

- 1 April 2014
The weight–length relationships of 22 fish species from middle stretches of the Paraiba do Sul River, a riverine system located in the most important economic regions of Brazil and which is under great pressure due to damming, are reported.
Influence of the river flow on the structure of fish assemblage along the longitudinal gradient from river to reservoir
A major shift in assemblage structure occurred along the longitudinal gradient due to changes in discharge of the inflowing river, with increased fish abundance in the riverine zone caused by increased habitat availability in wet season, and the reverse of this situation in the dry season.

Environmental education is a potential ally for a paradigm shift towards environmental crimes, which are often correctively addressed (i.e. penalties for environmental violations). This study aimed…
