OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to assess the involvement of the endoplasmic reticulum aminopeptidase 1 (ERAP1) gene in AS susceptibility and functional severity in a Spanish population. METHODS Eight single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) spanning the ERAP1 gene were genotyped by allele-specific fluorescent PCR in 300 AS Spanish patients and 300(More)
Residues of five pesticides in surface water were surveyed during 2001 and 2003 in the Traiguen river basin in Southern Chile. Simazine, hexazinone, 2,4-D, picloram herbicides and carbendazim fungicide were selected through a pesticide risk classification index. Six sampling stations along the river were set up based on agricultural and forestry land use.(More)
The role of membrane cofactor protein (MCP, CD46) on human T cell activation has been analyzed. Coligation of CD3 and CD46 in the presence of PMA or CD28 costimuli enhanced IL-2, IFN-gamma, or IL-10 secretion by CD4+ T lymphocytes. The effect of CD46 on IL-10 secretion did not require additional costimuli like anti-CD28 antibodies or phorbol esters. CD46(More)
OBJECTIVE To identify genomic variants in the 19q13 chromosome region associated with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) in human leucocyte antigen (HLA)-B27-positive populations. METHODS High-throughput genotyping of 1536 haplotype-tag single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) was performed in 249 patients with AS and 302 healthy controls. Some of the identified(More)
The aim of this study was to analyse the association of specific killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptors (KIR) genes and haplotypes with susceptibility to ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and its different clinical manifestations in a Spanish population. The presence or absence of all KIR genes was studied for their association with AS. A total of 176 patients(More)
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is caused by the selective destruction of the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas by an autoimmune response. Due to ethical and practical difficulties, the features of the destructive process are known from a small number of observations, and transcriptomic data are remarkably missing. Here we report whole genome transcript(More)
OBJECTIVE To investigate the potential association of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) markers other than HLA-B27 with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). METHODS A total of 603 patients with AS and 542 healthy control subjects, all of whom were HLA-B27 positive, were selected for this study based on clinical criteria. First, high-density genotyping across(More)
OBJECTIVE A recent genome-wide association study has identified 2 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) associated with ankylosing spondylitis (AS), rs10865331 (2p15) and rs2242944 (21q22). We assessed the association of these SNP with AS in a Spanish population. METHODS Four hundred fifty-six patients with AS fulfilling the modified New York Criteria and(More)
Crry/p65 is a type I glycoprotein, which protects mouse T cells from complement attack. We have previously shown that complement receptor I-related protein Crry/p65 (Crry) ligation has a costimulatory effect on mouse CD4+ T cell activation. Here, we have examined the mechanisms responsible for Crry costimulation, addressing the question of whether Crry(More)
We have previously shown that the intrastriatal injection of the C-terminal domain of tetanus toxin (Hc-TeTx) protects the nigrostriatal-dopaminergic pathways and improves motor behavior in hemiparkinsonism-rat models caused by MPP(+) (1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium). Here we have investigated the protective effects of the intramuscular application of the(More)
