Abstract An analytical expression for the expansion of a thermalized electron cloud is obtained.
A nonlinear diffusion equation describing electric field penetration into a plasma with a nonlinear conductivity has been solved. The penetration time becomes shorter as the non‐linearity increases.
The question of the velocity of energy propagation in various structures is addressed and a comparison of the different definitions for this velocity is made.
