On the basis of studies carried out with a group of 47 patients with endogenous depressive illness, lower plasma activity of dopamine-beta-hydroxylase (DBH) was found as compared with a control group (31 healthy persons). Lower DBH activity particularly characterized bipolar patients. Lowest DBH activity was found in patients with a family history of… (More)

The analysis of GABA levels in plasma of 28 normal persons and 25 patients with endogenous depression did not show any significant differences between both groups. Neither did we observe any differences in GABA levels in patients treated with antidepressant drugs before and after treatment, during a remission or a depression, in responders or nonresponders… (More)
In the group of 115 endogenous depression patients 84 responded to tricyclic antidepressant medication and 31 remained drug-resistance. The changes of platelet MAO activity and serum DBH activity in the latter group were found. Among drug-resistant patients, 40% showed low MAO/DBH index (.6) and in 36% the index was within the medium range (.6-1.9). The low… (More)
On the basis of studies carried out in a group of 44 patients with endogenous depressive illness, the authors conclude that MHPG in urine is not a good predictor of response to amitriptyline treatment. There are no correlations between MHPG level and clinical improvement after 2 weeks' treatment and with final results of the therapy.
