We present the current status of development of an open-source shallow-transfer machine translation engine for the Romance languages of Spain (the main ones being Span-ish, Catalan and Galician) as part of a larger government-funded project which includes non-Romance languages such as Basque and involving both universities and linguistic technology(More)
In this demo we present the first version of Txala, a dependency parser for Spanish developed under LGPL license. This parser is framed in the development of a free-software platform for Machine Translation. Due to the lack of this kind of syntactic parsers for Spanish, this tool is essential for the development of NLP in Spanish.
This paper presents the strategy and design of a highly efficient semiautomatic method for labelling the semantic features of common nouns, using semantic relationships between words, and based on the information extracted from an electronic monolingual dictionary. The method, that uses genus data, specific relators and synonymy information, obtains an(More)
We present the current status of development of an open architecture for the translation from Spanish into Basque. The machine translation architecture uses an open source analyser for Spanish and new modules mainly based on finite-state transducers. The project is integrated in the OpenTrad initiative, a larger government-funded project shared among(More)
The prevalence of HBsAg and anti-HBs in a representative sample of 839 recruits from a cohort of 17–18 year-old males living in Barcelona has been determined by radioimmunoassay of eluates of finger-prick dried blood. It was 0.48% for HBsAg, and 3.22% for anti-HBs. All carriers of HBsAg were anti-HBe positive and had normal liver function tests. Half of(More)
We are working on the construction of a Spanish-Basque (es-eu) machine translation tool using the traditional transfer model based on shallow and dependency parsing. Spanish and Basque languages are very different and one of the main problems is the translation of the verb chain. We will present the features of each language verb chain, and the design of(More)
This paper presents three successful techniques to translate prepositions heading verbal complements by means of rich linguistic information, in the context of a rule-based Machine Translation system for an agglutinative language with scarce resources. This information comes in the form of lexicalized syntactic dependency triples, verb subcategorization and(More)
We present some Language Technology applications that have proven to be effec tive tools to promote use of Basque, a low density language. We also present the strat egy we have followed for almost twenty years to develop those applications as the top of an integrated environment of lan guage resources, language foundations, language tools and other(More)
