Anoxia as the cause of the mid-Early Cambrian (Botomian) extinction event
- A. Zhuravlev, R. Wood
- Environmental Science, Geography
- 1 April 1996
New and revised Early Cambrian biostratigraphic data allow a quantitative analysis of changes in biotic diversity and extinction rate. The mid-Early Cambrian extinction can now be resolved into two…

Precambrian/Cambrian boundary problem: Carbon isotope correlations for Vendian and Tommotian time between Siberia and Morocco
- M. Magaritz, J. Kirschvink, A. Latham, A. Zhuravlev, A. Rozanov
- Geography, Geology
- 1 August 1991
At least three distinctive cycles are preserved in the carbon-isotope patterns for the Vendian/Tommotian interval of the Siberian platform and the Anti-Atlas Mountains of Morocco. In Siberia, an…
New Finds of Skeletal Fossils in the Terminal Neoproterozoic of the Siberian Platform and Spain
- A. Zhuravlev, E. Liñán, J. A. G. Vintaned, F. Debrenne, A. B. Fedorov
- Geography, Geology
- 19 March 2012
A current paradigm accepts the presence of weakly biomineralized animals only, barely above a low metazoan grade of organization in the terminal Neoproterozoic (Ediacaran), and a later, early…
Multiple δ13C excursions spanning the Cambrian explosion to the Botomian crisis in Siberia
- M. Brasier, R. Corfield, L. Derry, A. Rozanov, A. Zhuravlev
- Geography, Environmental Science
- 1 May 1994
New high-resolution δ 13 C data through the Lower Cambrian of Siberia reveal multiple, positive excursions coincident with phases in the "explosion" of invertebrate phyla (Nemakit-Daldynian to middle…
Ediacaran skeletal metazoan interpreted as a lophophorate
- A. Zhuravlev, R. Wood, A. Penny
- Geography, Environmental ScienceProceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological…
- 7 November 2015
The interpretation of Namacalathus as an Ediacaran total group lophophorate is consistent with an early radiation of the Lophophorata, as known early Cambrian representatives were sessile, mostly stalked forms, and in addition, the oldest known calcareous Brachiopoda and Bryozoa possessed foliated ultrastructures.
Eve of biomineralization: Controls on skeletal mineralogy
- A. Zhuravlev, R. Wood
- Geography, Environmental Science
- 1 December 2008
Carbonate mineralogies have oscillated between aragonite and calcite seas through geological time, proposed to be due mainly to secular variation in the magnesium/calcium ratio driven by changing…

Functional biology and ecology of Archaeocyatha
- R. Wood, A. Zhuravlev, F. Debrenne
- Environmental Science
- 1 April 1992
The Archaeocyatha, an early Cambrain group of calcified sponges, were the first skeletal metazoans to develop a modular habit and to be associated with reefs, and show the predicted ecological changes with the appearance of modularity.
Reef ecosytem recovery after the Early Cambrian extinction
- A. Zhuravlev
- Geography, Environmental ScienceGeological Society Special Publication
- 1996
Abstract Revised and new stratigraphic data indicate a complex extinction event in the late Early Cambrian which consisted of two, temporally separate, but related phases. The earliest phase…
