Sex Ratio as a Function of Size in Marine Crustacea
- A. Wenner
- Environmental ScienceAmerican Naturalist
- 1 May 1972
A deviation from the 1:1 sex ratio is apparently widespread in marine crustaceans, but the normal practice of calculating sex ratio for a population sample obscures this fact. An inspection of the…
PROMOTION OF SEED SET IN YELLOW STAR‐THISTLE BY HONEY BEES: EVIDENCE OF AN INVASIVE MUTUALISM
- J. Barthell, J. Randall, R. Thorp, A. Wenner
- Biology
- 1 December 2001
We examined the role of nonnative honey bees (Apis mellifera) as pollinators of the invasive, nonnative plant species yellow star-thistle (Centaurea solstitialis), both introduced to the western…
Honey Bee Recruitment to Food Sources: Olfaction or Language?
- A. Wenner, P. H. Wells, Dennis L. Johnson
- PsychologyScience
- 4 April 1969
Honey bee recruits locate food sources by olfaction and not by use of distance and direction information contained in the recruitment dance. Recruitment efficiency increases as odor of the food…
Size at onset of sexual maturity and growth rate in crustacean populations.
The use of probability paper in rigorously defining the mean size at onset of sexual maturity avoids some of the confusion inherent in other methods of assessing size at maturity and permits an objective comparison of differences between discrete populations.
